Beryl became interested in drawing as a child growing up on a farm and while roaming the bush, she would pick wild flowers and collect interesting organic material. 
Landscapes and flora are Beryl’s main subject matter and she always travels with her sketch book and she uses pen, colour pencils, mixed media, collage and even smoke to create works on paper. 
When her children were at high school, Beryl began art classes with the Brisbane Flying Arts School and was a member of The Half Doyan Group.
Women artists, Mervyn Moriarty and Roy Oorloff have influence her art and way of seeing/observing her subject matter.
