Artist of the Month for August at the Dayboro Art Gallery - Beryl Marshall

Beryl Marshall is the Artist of the Month for August at the Dayboro Art Gallery.

Beryl became interested in drawing as a child growing up on a farm and while roaming the bush, she would pick wild flowers and collect interesting organic material. Landscapes and flora are Beryl’s main subject matter and she always travels with her sketch book and she uses pen, colour pencils, mixed media, collage and even smoke to create works on paper.
When her children were at high school, Beryl began art classes with the Brisbane Flying Arts School and was a member of The Half Doyan Group.
Women artists, Mervyn Moriarty and Roy Oorloff have influence her art and way of seeing/observing her subject matter.
Also available at the Dayboro Art Gallery are Beryl’s small hand drawings feature in her hand made books.

Artist of the Month for July at the Dayboro Art Gallery - Helen Hornibrook

Helen Hornibrook is the Artist of the Month at the Dayboro Art Gallery for July.

Since starting to paint 6 years ago Helen has become completely absorbed in her art to the exclusion of all else.
The most interesting aspect is progress - where she can look back and see improvement. Largely self taught, Helen has attended many workshops. Helen was a florist for many years, which she believes helped her have a good sense of colour, texture and design. Landscape painting is her first love, but she also enjoys still life, portraiture, and has won awards for abstract work as well at local shows and competitions.
Recently, Helen won a competition in the Artist Palette and was offered a commission to do a demonstration painting for a later issue .

Another Great Dayboro Day at the Dayboro Art Gallery

Some pictures from Dayboro Day last weekend, Sunday, 29 May 2011. What a wonderful day, the weather shined beautifully and the crowds were out.

The front of the Gallery where the Art Sale was set up. People poured in all day, I think all the members who volunteered for the day would testify that they were pretty much run off their feet all day!

The Trash and Treasure Stall was as popular as always with everyone looking for a bargain.

Lorraine busy selling the books and mags.

Warren cooking snags on the BBQ which was very popular.

Bruce set up out the front offering to draw portraits. Jane also set up in the gallery and gave a demonstration of working in pastels.

It was busy inside too with a heap of raffle tickets being sold and encouraging visitors to participate in the Artist Choice Awards. Congratulations goes to Bruce Mercer again this year for winning the award!!

Artist of the Month for March at the Dayboro Art Gallery - Janelle Parish

Janelle Parish is artist of the month at the Dayboro Art Gallery for March. Janelle has been been painting for about ten years now and has participated in many workshops with several well regarded art professionals. In 2008, Janelle travelled to Tuscany in Italy with a group of like-minded artists and enjoyed this trip immensely.

Painting plein air in the beautiful countryside and also with a local group lead by a Professor of Art from Florence. It was an enriching experience.

After exploring different techniques, Janelle's work has evolved into a softer, more serene style.

Lillian Tebesceff, Artist of the Month - February - Dayboro Art Gallery

Lillian Tebesceff is the Artist of the Month for February at the Dayboro Art Gallery . Winner of many Art awards, locally and interstate, Lillian is teaching 'Art for Pleasure' at Kings Cottage, on behalf of the Pine Rivers U3A and at the Dayboro Art Gallery. Originally a subject teacher (16yrs NSW Catholic System) then a lecturer (psychology etc...) she has been involved with art both professionally and as a hobby throughout her life. Lillian has studied in Europe and Australia and actively belongs to local and interstate Art Groups, Galleries and Committees. Lillian's art is an extension to self expression, it's coming in many moods....and evident in her work.
Dayboro had its share of flooding too as the township lies within a valley northwest of Brisbane and therefore it didn't escape the torrential downpour that occurred on the 11th of January. Fortunately, the water subsided as soon as the rain stopped.
As you can see by the line drawn on the white wood in the picture, the waterline rose quite high but despite this, most of the art was unaffected due to some quick actions of members earlier in the day.
Finally, a Bunya Nut from one of our magnificent trees out the back of the Gallery.

Artist of the Month for January at the Dayboro Community Art Gallery - Dee Sooveere

Dee Sooveere is the Artist of the Month at the Dayboro Community Art Gallery for January 2011. Dee's exciting display includes portraits of well known locals from Dayboro which you can easily identify!

Dee is a budding local portrait artist and also a resident of Dayboro Village. She is very grateful to the people who agreed to participate in her exhibition, including Tim Harlow, a member of the Gallery and talented photographer, and Lillian Tebesceff, another talented local artist and teacher (paintings below). Dee, a relative newcomer to the "World of Art", has been painting off and on for about 4 years.
Unlike many artists, Dee doesn't know where the desire to paint came from. Dee didn't do art at high school and knew no one else who did, even her family are at a loss (perhaps there was an artist somewhere in the family line, long ago). Dee enjoys browsing through art supply shops, the smell of crayons and pencils and paper stir the memories of the classrooms of her early school years in England.
Dee found the opportunity to give art a go came when she lived in Budderim, nervously attending some folk art lessons were she picked up some useful techniques, but did not find what she was looking for there.
Many years later in 2005 while wandering around an art supply shop at Kallanger, she was enticed by the proprietor to sign up for pastel lessons and loved it.
Subsequently, Dee became a member of the Dayboro Community Art Gallery where she now enjoys the company of other local artists. Today Dee loves to paint in oils, pastels and acrylics (favouring oils for there blending and slow drying qualities). Dee's favourite subjects at present are painting people and animal portraits. Come in this month and view Dee's excellent exhibition.
