Dee Sooveere is the Artist of the Month at the Dayboro Community Art Gallery for January 2011. Dee's exciting display includes portraits of well known locals from Dayboro which you can easily identify!
Dee is a budding local portrait artist and also a resident of Dayboro Village. She is very grateful to the people who agreed to participate in her exhibition, including Tim Harlow, a member of the Gallery and talented photographer, and Lillian Tebesceff, another talented local artist and teacher (paintings below). Dee, a relative newcomer to the "World of Art", has been painting off and on for about 4 years.
Unlike many artists, Dee doesn't know where the desire to paint came from. Dee didn't do art at high school and knew no one else who did, even her family are at a loss (perhaps there was an artist somewhere in the family line, long ago). Dee enjoys browsing through art supply shops, the smell of crayons and pencils and paper stir the memories of the classrooms of her early school years in England.
Dee found the opportunity to give art a go came when she lived in Budderim, nervously attending some folk art lessons were she picked up some useful techniques, but did not find what she was looking for there.
Many years later in 2005 while wandering around an art supply shop at Kallanger, she was enticed by the proprietor to sign up for pastel lessons and loved it.
Subsequently, Dee became a member of the Dayboro Community Art Gallery where she now enjoys the company of other local artists. Today Dee loves to paint in oils, pastels and acrylics (favouring oils for there blending and slow drying qualities). Dee's favourite subjects at present are painting people and animal portraits. Come in this month and view Dee's excellent exhibition.
